Recent events such as the attack on the Galicia Spirit in the Bab el Mandeb strait and the attack on the CPO Korea in the Somali Basin have highlighted why this was an absolutely essential decision.
Giles Noakes, Head of Maritime Security at BIMCO commented:

Members should continue to carry out single voyage risk assessments and are strongly encouraged to implement fully the guidance contained in the latest Best Management Practice (BMP4).

Veritas Petroleum Services (VPS) publish regular Bunker Alerts based entirely on fuel samples and have kindly permitted BIMCO’s Members to access this information.
The Bunker Alerts are not intended to be an evaluation of overall bunker quality in the port or area concerned, but usually highlight a specific parameter within the fuel which has raised a quality issue.
